Product Overview

Volkswagen Passat B5.5 Variant (Typ 3B) is a mid-size station wagon in production from 2000 to 2005. It was available with a range of inline-4, VR5, VR6, and W8 engines that displaced 1.8 to 4.0 liters.
Arguably the last generation of Passat for purists, the facelifted B5 (B5.5) Passat came with the richest engine range ever to be found with a VW badge. Not only were VR5 and VR6 offered, one could also configure their Passat with the world's only commercial W8 engine in an automobile. These unique engines allowed Volkswagen to make FWD vehicles in a very compact chassis. It was also the last generation of Passat that had a longitudinally-mounted engine a la Audi A4.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Volkswagen Passat Variant (B5.5) comes with double-wishbone and multi-link suspensions. While unusual for a FWD vehicle, this setup offers superior handling characteristics than a normal strut setup.
