Product Overview

Subaru Outback 2 (chassis code BH) is a mid-size station wagon in production from 1999 to 2003. It was available with a range of flat-4 and flat-6 engines that displaced 2.5 to 3.0 liters.
Based on the Gen3 Legacy Station Wagon, the Outback is an "uglified" Legacy with off-color plastic thrown on. It is the spiritual ancestor to Audi's allroad quattro and Mercedes' all-terrain wagons.
Unlike those Germany copycats, however, the Outback differs notably from the Legacy Station Wagon in that its roofline is modified apart from the suspension updates. This was to give the Outback an almost "crossover" feel before the genre became popular and later confused with "SUVs".
