Product Overview

Volkswagen Passat B5.5 is the facelifted version of the B5 Passat mid-size sedan in production from 2000 to 2005. It is available with inline-4, V6, VR5, and W8 engines that displaced 1.6 to 4.0 liters.
What was perhaps most interesting was the W8 engine, which is two VR4 engines in a 72-degree Vee. It was the only W8 internal combustion engine to have ever been manufactured. It is also the spiritual predecessor to the W16 engine found in modern Bugatti.
Also interesting is the VR5 engine, which was also the only to have been manufactured.
Volkswagen has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.27 coefficient of drag to show for it. The Passat B5.5 also comes with a high towing capacity.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Volkswagen Passat B5.5 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.
