Product Overview

BMW 7 Series F01 is a flagship full-size luxury sedan in production from 2008 to 2012, whereupon it received a facelift. It is available with a range of inline-6, V8, and V12 engines that displaced 3.0 to 6.0 liters.
The most interesting engine option was undoubted the bi-turbo V12 N74 shared with Rolls-Royce. Arguably, it was the most advanced V12 engine ever made in the automotive industry at its launch, with double-VANOS (variable valve timing), DOHC, direct injection, and twin turbos. Five years after the introduction of the M275 engine by Mercedes, BMW finally had something competitive.
The questionable engine was the N63 bi-turbo V8, which has since proven to be rather unreliable. The N54 I6 was not much better, either. Instead, the naturally-aspirated N52 found in the 730i / 730Li was the more sensible choice.
Another first with the F01 was the debut of the ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission, which nevertheless trails the 8-speed found in the Lexus LS460 introduced two years earlier.
The F01 7 Series also comes with a high towing capacity and good cargo capacity.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the F01 finally uses double-wishbone + multi-link suspension setup for improved handling.
