Product Overview

BMW 3 Series F30 is a compact executive sedan in production from 2011 to 2015, whereupon it received a facelift. It is available with a range of inline-4 and inline-6 engines that displaced 1.6 to 3.0 liters.
Owners will likely be intrigued the most by the inline-6 engine options, namely the N55 petrol and N57 diesel. The N55 is a bit more reliable than the N54, which turned out to be a stop-gap between the reliable N52 and this second attempt. However, it is the B58 from facelifted models that buyers really want when it comes to reliability and performance. Diesel-wise, the N57 is known for having timing chain issues.
The I4 engines are unfortunately less reliable in the long-term, even though they were very fuel-efficient and fun to drive when new.
BMW has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.26 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the F30 still uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
All of the BMW 3 Series Mk6 models are smooth and offer good performance. The suspension does a good job of isolating lumps and bumps from the cabin. Around town, the 3 Series isn’t taxing to drive due to its light controls and good overall visibility. However, if you’re after the most serene and comfiest cruiser, you may be better off with a Mercedes C-Class.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Well-balanced suspension setup
  • Good fuel economy
Cons
  • Lack of automatic gearbox options
  • Cheap to drive
