Product Overview

Mazda 6 / Atenza III (code GJ) is an affordable mid-size sports sedan in production from 2012 to 2015, whereupon it received the first facelift in its lifecycle. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 2.0 to 2.5 liters.
Mazda decided to go "upmarket" with this generation, giving it more "modern" designs. At the same time, double-wishbone front suspensions from the previous two generations were downgraded to MacPherson strut. The V6 engine option also disappeared.
With these changes, Mazda managed to capture the non-enthusiast market.

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Mazda says it won't build a GTI-rivalling hot ‘MPS’ version of the fine new 3. That means that this 163bhp-tune 2.0-litre model (notably free of forced induction) is the performance flagship. Is it enough to make the most of the new 3's entertaining dynamics?
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Punchy handling
Cons
  • No turbocharger
  • Lack of mid-range urge
