Product Overview

Mazda 3 / Axela II (code BL) is an affordable compact sedan in production from 2009 to 2011, whereupon it received a facelift with new Skyactiv powertrains. It is available with a range of inline-4 petrol and diesel engines that displaced 1.6 to 2.5 liters.
The Gen2 Mazda 3 II is limited to inline-4, which is barely adequate for the compact chassis. Besides being lethargic, they also did not deliver great fuel economy, either.
On the plus side, Mazda has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.28 coefficient of drag to show for it. The Mazda 3 / Axela BL also comes with a high towing capacity and a small 10.4m (34.1ft) turning circle.

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The new Mazda 3 is a good car. It steers nicely, has a great gearbox and decent engines, and it's cheaper than the Volkswagen equivalent. But it doesn't feel prestigious or luxurious inside, the badge doesn't have the cachet and people will overlook it because it's so good.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Plastic looks
  • Not as good as the Golf
