Product Overview

Volvo S80 II is high-end large executive sedan in production from 2006 to 2009, whereupon it received the first of two facelifts in the model's entire decade-long run. It is available with inline-4, inline-5, inline-6, and V8 engines that displaced from 2.4L to 4.4L.
Owners will probably enjoy the powerful naturally-aspirated V8 the most. With the B8444S engine code, this 4.4-liter DOHC engine was developed by Yamaha and built in Japan. It was available in both the FWD and AWD models and was the largest transversely-mounted V8 in the automotive industry. This engine is powerful, sounds good, and is reasonably reliable, and it made the FWD model that much more fun.
Volvo has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.28 coefficient of drag to show for it. The Volvo S80 II also comes with a high towing capacity.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Volvo S80 II uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
For 2008 Volvo has introduced new petrol and diesel engines, both four cylinder, both two-litres. The entry-level 2.0 petrol SE is a bargain £23,495. The S80 can cruise reasonably well on the motorway, one- or two-up. At higher revs the engine feels lively and responsive. Where the S80 stumbles so miserably is in urban conditions.
Pros
  • Stylish interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • Lacklustre engine
  • No automatic gearbox
