Product Overview

Samyang AF 35mm F2.8 FE is a wide-angle prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Samyang in 2017, it has 7 elements in 6 groups.
Unfortunately, Samyang has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
As a wide-angle prime lens that is quite compact, the Samyang AF 35mm F2.8 FE can be an interesting component of a prime-lens kit well adapted for travel. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Samyang 35mm F2.8 is a good 35mm with very good sharpness at a very reasonable price (300 euros) It misses some character and suffers from a nervous bokeh. The higher price of the Sony Zeiss (819 euros instead of 300 euros) can be justified on an A7RII or a A9.
Pros
  • Good sharpness at F2.8 (much more than the sony Zeiss 35mm F1.4 (1600 euros)
  • Low chromatic aberrations
  • Good contrast
Cons
  • Bokeh and color rendition are not visible
  • No correction for Sony Zeiss deactivated
