Product Overview

Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 FE is a large-aperture wide-angle prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Samyang in 2017, it has 11 elements in 9 groups.
Unfortunately, Samyang has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
The bright maximum aperture for a wide-angle lens is appreciated for night and astro photography, though some may prefer the perspective of an ultra wide-angle lens for this. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Samyang AF 35mm f1.4 FE is a mild wide-angle prime lens for Sony's Alpha mirrorless cameras. It offers a bright aperture and autofocus at an affordable price below Sony’s existing trio of 35mm lenses. The lens focuses in around 0.7 sec on a Sony A7R II from infinity to 0.44m (1:10 magnification)
Pros
  • Bright f1.4 focal ratio
  • Very good image quality
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Poor focus-by-wire performance
  • Occasional focus breathing

Reviewer score 67% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Samyang 35mm F1.4 AF is a very good lens and an excellent deal for its price. The AF motor is much less noisy than the Samyang 50 mm F2.8 AF but you still hear it in video. Although the Zeiss is a little bit better on most aspects this comes at 2,5 times the price.
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness across the frame, already very good wide open and then excellent as of F2
  • Good bokeh (but some onions rings) and constrast and color a little better (matter of personal taste)
Cons
  • No weather sealing (user guide recommendation) AF is not as precise and fast as the Sony Zeiss one, could be annoying for subjects in motion or in low light
  • Some noise in focusing that could be noticed in video (but much better than the Samyang 50 mm F...
