Product Overview

Canon EF-M 32mm F1.4 STM is a large-aperture normal prime lens for Canon EF-M-mount. It covers the APS-C image circle. Introduced by Canon in 2018, it has 14 elements in 8 groups.
Unfortunately, Canon has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
A normal prime lens, the Canon EF-M 32mm F1.4 STM has the potential to be one of the most used and ultimately versatile option in a photographer's bag. Usually the easiest to design and to QC, it is a great option for landscape and street photography. Its bright maximum aperture also helps night and portrait works.

External Reviews

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Canon EF-M 32mm f1.4 STM is a standard prime lens for the EOS M mirrorless system. It measures 61mm in diameter, 57mm long, weighs 235g, has a 43mm filter thread and sports a metal lens mount, unlike the plastic mount of the 15-45mm kit zoom. The optical construction consists of 14 elements in eight groups, 7 diaphragm blades and a closest focusing distance of 23cm. There’s no optical stabilisation and at the time I made this video, no Eos M bodies with sensor-stabilisation either.
Pros
  • Wide-open at f1.4
  • Excellent image stabilisation
  • Compact and light
Cons
  • No weather sealing
  • No optical stabilisation

dpreview[2]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from dpreview have found:
The EF-M 32mm F1.4 STM has a 0.23m close-focusing limit. Autofocus is handled by an STM stepping motor that promises smooth and quiet focus for stills and ‘near silence’ when capturing videos. There is some noise from the lens as it’s manually focused during video recording, but if you turn the ring slowly enough you will not even notice this.
Pros
  • Relatively wide aperture
  • Compact and quiet
  • Two-mode control
Cons
  • No electronic shutter
  • No manual focus
