Product Overview

Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA is a large-aperture wide-angle prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2015, it has 12 elements in 8 groups.
For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing. On the lens barrel, one can find a physical aperture ring. Those who wish to focus manually can have the best of both worlds (with the usual caveats).
The bright maximum aperture for a wide-angle lens is appreciated for night photography, though some may prefer the perspective of an ultra wide-angle lens for this. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Sony FE 35mm f1.4 ZA is a wide-angle prime lens for Sony's mirrorless cameras. It's one of several 35mm options for the e-mount, including Sony’s own dimmer but smaller f2.8 model as well as alternatives from Sigma, Samyang and Zeiss. It has thorough weather-sealing throughout the body, a large focal ratio and a de-clickable aperture-ring.
Pros
  • Large f1.4 focal length
  • De-clickable aperture ring
  • Very fast focus
Cons
  • No rubber grommet at the lens mount

An extremely popular wide-aperture 35mm lens worthy of consideration is the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens. With max apertures differing by 2 stops, a dramatatic size and weight difference, and a 2x price differential, these lenses may be more complementary than competitive.
Pros
  • Sharp, accurate f/1.4 aperture
  • Low vignetting
  • Relatively quiet
Cons
  • No manual focus
  • Vignetting at max apertures
