Product Overview

Sony FE 28mm F2 is an affordable wide-angle prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2015, it has 9 elements in 8 groups.
Unfortunately, Sony has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
As a wide-angle prime lens that happens to have relatively small maximum aperture, it is best suited for landscape photography, though some may wish for a brighter alternative for versatility. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.
It is compatible with a couple of wide-angle converters, an interesting concept that Sony has since abandoned.

digitalpicture[1]

Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
This lens has a small size and light weight that maintains the spirit of Sony's compact mirrorless cameras. As an "FE" lens, the Sony FE 28mm f/2 Lens is compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras, including both full frame and APS-C sensor format models. The wide open image quality of this lens may not be amazing, but the price is low enough for many to lose all concern.

  • Small, light, and compact
  • Good image quality
  • Dust and moisture-resistant design
Cons
  • No AF/MF switch or stabilization switch
  • No lens case included

The 28mm F2 is a special lens in the Sony line up. It supports the addition of 2 specific converters that change its focal lenth. The lens is well built, lightweight and discrete, the AF is quite fast. Sharpness is excellent at the center although it require to stop down a little bit if you want very good corners.
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness at the center
  • Very fast AF
  • Very resistant to flare
Cons
  • Very visible distorsion
