Teleconverter extends the focal length of compatible telephoto lenses by 2 times, trading in 3/4 (2 stops) of light transmission. It covers
the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2016, it has 8 elements in 5 groups.
Currently, only a small number of
full-frame lenses, usually in the G Master lineup are compatible with
it. They include (non-exhaustive):
- FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS
- FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II
- FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS
- FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS
- FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS
- FE 600mm F4 GM OSS
Sony also markets a 1.4x teleconverter for those who have different tradeoff considerations.
