Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter extends the focal length of compatible telephoto lenses by 1.4 times, trading in half (1 stop) of light transmission. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2016, it has 6 elements in 5 groups.
Currently, only a small number of full-frame lenses, usually in the G Master lineup are compatible with it. They include (non-exhaustive):
  • FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS
  • FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II
  • FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS
  • FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS
  • FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS
  • FE 600mm F4 GM OSS
Sony also markets a 2x teleconverter for FE for those with different tradeoff considerations.

The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter is impressively small and light. It increases the overall lens length by only 0.68" (17.3mm) and total weight by only 5.8 oz (165g) A single aspherical lens element is included in this lens's 6/5 (6 elements in 5 groups) design.
