Product Overview

Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM is a wide-angle zoom lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2017, it has 16 elements in 13 groups.
Like most zoom lenses, the Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM is externally-zooming. For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing.
The f/2.8 maximum aperture is quite bright for a wide-angle zoom lens and can be quite valuable for night photography, though an ultra wide-angle lens may prove more interesting. It can also be quite interesting for landscape and general photography. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Sony's FE 16-35mm f2.8 G Master is a wide zoom for e-mount mirrorless cameras, and corrected for use on full-frame bodies. It offers good to very good optical quality and a useful 2.2x range which at 35mm almost reaches "normal" focal length for general use. The focus ring is 16mm wide and is located at the front-end of the lens. It moves very smoothly and can easily be operated with one finger.
Pros
  • Good optical quality
  • 2.2x focal length
  • Good image quality
Cons
  • Bulky front element
  • Focus breathing at 35mm focal length

Pros
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras and APS-C sensor formats
  • Fully-rigid, petal-shaped hood
Cons
  • Lacks focus hold and AF/MF switch
  • F/2.8 lens has slightly sharper corners at longer focal lengths
