Product Overview

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6E ED VR is a super telephoto zoom lens for Nikon F-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Nikon in 2015, it has 19 elements in 12 groups.
Like most zoom lenses, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6E ED VR is externally-zooming. Fortunately, Nikon has provided a zoom lock that at least stops zoom creep. Unfortunately, Nikon has opted to omit weather sealing for this lens, so owners should pay extra attention when shooting in incremental weathers.
As a super telephoto zoom lens, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6E ED VR can be quite useful for wild-life and landscape photography. Built-in image stabilization is almost a must-have at this focal range, and this lens does not disappoint on this front. Owners will also like the available tripod collar.

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
From Nikon there’s the AF-S 80-400mm f4.5-5.6D ED VRii. At 500mm focal length the lens focuses in around 1 sec from infinity to 5m, which is slow. One reason is that the lens starts searching in the wrong direction (beyond infinity) before turning around.
Pros
  • High quality metal/plastic construction
  • Good image stabilization
  • Weather sealed metal lens-mount
Cons
  • Slow focus-turning
  • No zoom lock at 200mm
