External Reviews

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Focus accuracy and repeatability of this lens is very good (measured 98.2% in Reikan FoCal) with no outliers over a series of 40 shots. There is only little focus variation whether the lens focuses from a closer distance or from infinity. The lens focuses in around 0.5 sec from infinity to 0.6m (1:10 magnification), which is pretty fast.
Pros
  • Very good optical performance
  • Compact and compact
  • Good build quality
Cons
  • Not as sharp as native Z Nikkor

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from dpreview have found:
The Z 50mm F1.8 looks nice, handles well, feels neither too heavy nor too light. There is no give in the focus ring, no wobble in the mount, and after weeks of use it hasn't fallen apart in my hands. Autofocus actuation from the stepping motor isn't as fast as Nikon's snappiest F-mount zooms with more powerful ring-type AF motors.
Pros
  • Very fast autofocus
  • Very well-sealed
  • Very good build quality
Cons
  • No manual focus
  • No in-body stabilization
