External Reviews
digitaltrends[1]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The TCL R648 has a beefy sound system that only adds value to the television. The included subwoofer offers solid bass and a room-filling presence. While the 8K resolution isn't really what makes this TV stand out, it does offer a certain element of future-proofing.
Pros
- Excellent out-of-box color performance
- Solid black levels
- Excellent sound system
Cons
- Off-axis performance is a bit harsh
pcmag[2]
Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)R648 reaches nearly across the entire DCI-P3 color space, with only yellow falling short of the range. Green drifts a bit, and magenta leans slightly toward red, but otherwise the color performance is very strong. There is still no consumer 8K content available, so we can't readily test the 65R648 in its native resolution.
Pros
- Excellent color performance
- High contrast
- Supports FreeSync
Cons
- No 8K content
- No HDR10 support
rtings[3]
Reviewer score 52% (normalized by Neofiliac)The TCL R648 is great for watching TV shows in a bright environment. It delivers deep blacks thanks to its high contrast and decent Mini LED local dimming feature. It upscales 720p and 1080p content without issue, and the built-in Roku TV has a great interface. However, it doesn't upscale 480p content well, so it's not a good choice for watching older shows or DVDs.
Pros
- Excellent peak brightness and reflection handling
- High contrast ratio
- Low input lag
- Decent local dimming feature
Cons
- Narrow viewing angles
- Doesn't upscale 480p content well
tomsguide[4]
Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)Roku TV is quick to learn and easy to use, but it lacks the depth and breadth of functionality. The Roku TV remote, on the other hand, has received a major update. The TCL Roku TV 6-Series 8K (R648) might be worth it if it were a killer performer in its own right.
Pros
- Sleeker, more comfortable design
- Improved voice controls
- Improved app selection
Cons
- Lacks the depth and breadth of functionality of the best smart TV systems
- No HDR10 support
