Product Overview

LG 24MD4KL UltraFine is a premium 24-inch 4K UHD monitor designed specifically with Mac users in mind. Most notably, it does not have HDMI or DisplayPort inputs; instead, it comes with three USB-C 3.0 ports and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
This unique setup, while interesting to Mac users, may be restrictive to PC users who have graphics cards that do not come with USB-C / Thunderbolt out. This perhaps explains why more recent LG monitors have abandoned this USB-C-only approach in favor of USB-C hubs.
As a general monitor, the 24MD4KL has a lot to offer. Its 4K IPS display delivers some of the best pixel density available on the market today. It also covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color space and has a peak brightness in excess of 500 nits.
Another monitor released around the same time with the exact same I/O setup is the 27MD5KL, which, as its name suggests, is a 5K model.

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The LG UltraFine 4K Display (24MD4KL-B) has a lot to offer to Mac users. You control it directly from your Mac, using options in its Display dialog box. The settings you can tweak are more limited than with most monitors. You'll only want to go with this LG panel if your Mac and your peripherals are resolutely ready.
Pros
  • Sharp 4K resolution
  • Good color accuracy
  • Built-in 5-watt speakers
Cons
  • No onboard speakers

techradar[2]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The LG UltraFine 24MD4KL has a 24-inch, 3,840 x 2,160 display. It has a full DCI-P3 color gamut and shoots out 500 nits of brightness. The only ports on offer here are USB-C around the back. It's a shame that it doesn't let you fully control the orientation of the display.
Pros
  • Bright and colorful display
  • Full DCI-P3 color gamut
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Very thick bezels
  • No HDMI or DisplayPort

trustedreviews[3]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The LG UltraFine 4K Display defaults to Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution out of the box. As there are no external controls, there is no OSD (on-screen display) This is very much a monitor aimed solely at Apple customers. The lack of any DisplayPort or HDMI ports means it’s not the most versatile.
Pros
  • High-quality 4K display
  • Excellent colour accuracy
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3
