Product Overview
Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 is the second-generation of Tamron's popular 28-75mm lens (Model A036). Retaining roughly the same physical dimensions of the original, the G2 lens features a redesigned optical system and updated autofocus system.
Tamron promises improved optical performance for the new 28-75mm F/2.8 lens, even though the original was already known for punching well above its weight in that department. The G2 lens further achieves a shorter minimum focus distance and higher reproduction ratio. While not strictly a macro lens, the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 opens up some new possibilities for photographers.
As the model name suggests, gone is the old RXD focus motor: in its place, Tamron is using its new VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor that delivers higher torque for more instantaneous autofocus.
The new 28-75mm F/2.8 still uses the 67mm filter thread, which can be found on a large number of Tamron mirrorless lenses.
