Product Overview

Viltrox 56mm F1.4 is a compact and affordable APS-C prime lens that is available for X-mount, E-mount, and EF-M-mount systems. With a 84mm full-frame-equivalent focal length, this lens is an interesting option for portrait photography.
Despite the low price point at which this 56mm F1.4 lens is available, it features autofocus powered by an STM screw-type motor. Moreover, this Viltrox lens even comes with an aperture ring: the photographer can adjust the aperture manually at any time, or s/he can leave it in "A" so that the camera does the job.
Another notable feature is the built-in Micro-USB port that allows the owner to update its firmware directly.
Two other Viltrox lenses that share the same physical dimensions, design, and feature set are the 23mm F1.4 and the 33mm F1.4.
This lens is suspiciously similar to Tokina's atx-m 56mm F1.4, which has been introduced months later.

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
iltrox vs standard lenses for Sigma (no consistency in size and aperture control through the body) The Viltrox is 30% cheaper than the Sigma, has a better build quality and a clickless aperture ring but it lacks weather sealing and its minimum focusing distance is quite long 60cm vs 50cm (Sigma) In the centre The sigma is one grade better at F1.4 and F2 then both are the same. In the corners the Sigma is much better up to F4. Both lenses had some AF issues with 10% slightly missed focused Distorsion / CA / Vignetting / Flare
Pros
  • Very good to outstanding sharpness in the centre, very soft background blur, good bokeh balls, very good color rendition, pleasant skin tones
  • Very good build quality and clickless aperture ring
  • Very fast, accurate 90% of the time, efficient in low light
Cons
  • No weather sealing and its minimum focusing distance is quite long 60cm vs 50cm (Sigma)
