Product Overview

Viltrox 23mm F1.4 is a compact and affordable APS-C prime lens for X-mount, E-mount, and EF-M-mount systems. With a 35mm full-frame-equivalent focal length, this lens is suitable for street photography, environmental portraits, and general photography, making it a versatile option for APS-C shooters.
Despite the low price point at which this 23mm F1.4 lens is slated, it features autofocus powered by an STM screw-type motor. Moreover, this Viltrox lens even comes with an aperture ring: the photographer can adjust the aperture manually at any time, or s/he can leave it in "A" so that the camera does the job.
Another notable feature is the built-in Micro-USB port that allows the owner to update its firmware directly.
Two other Viltrox lenses that share the same dimensions, design, and feature set are the 33mm F1.4 and the 56mm F1.4.
This lens is suspiciously similar to Tokina's atx-m 23mm F1.4, which has essentially the same physical dimensions and optical design.

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Viltrox 23mm F1.4 (285 euros) is a very good AF lens for Sony APSC cameras. 23mm is the equivalent of a 35mm lens on full frame, this is a common focal length for street photography or half body portrait. The main selling arguments of this lens are its excellent sharpness in the centre combined with fast aperture which give you a nice blurry background for portrait.
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness in the centre combined with fast aperture
  • Fast and efficient
  • Clickless aperture ring for video
Cons
  • Heavy Chromatic aberrations
  • Not very sharp at large aperture
