Product Overview

The 2nd-gen BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (G26) is the sedan version of the G22/G23 BMW 4 Series. It comes with the same range of drivetrain options and similar dimensions, though the addition of a rear door and the rearrangement of the cabin makes it a more practical option.
Buyers of the G26 Gran Coupe can choose between one inline-4 petrol, two inline-6 petrol, and one inline-4 diesel engines. Each engine is paired with the tried and true ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission, with the M440i xDrive and 420d xDrive sending power to all four wheels.
Like other new 4 Series models, the G26 features a striking front end with prominent, vertical kidney grille is unique to the 4 Series. The powerful yet elegant shoulders and flowing roofline accentuate the vehicle's sporting credentials.
On the six-cylinder petrol models, a 48-volt mild hybrid system is added for improved engine response and efficiency. All diesel engines now feature two-stage turbocharging.
Inside, the G26 4 Series Gran Coupe focuses on combining the latest technology with improved comfort. The new focus appears to be on touchscreen user interfaces, which now dominate the cabin.
Another interesting option that is essentially the same car in a full EV setup is the new i4.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The new M440i represents quite an advance. Although larger and heavier than the old 440i, its sharp performance and engaging dynamics lift it well above that car. It's also a good deal roomier and more practical. At £54,670, you might need to dig deep. But as an everyday proposition, its attraction can't be denied.

Pros
  • High-quality interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Not as spacious as the 3 Series

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The 4 Series Gran Coupé is 143mm longer, 27mm wider and 53mm taller. Although its luggage capacity is 10 litres smaller than a 3 Series saloon's, the hatchback does make it a much more practical proposition. The sloping tailgate means that owners of large but claustrophobic dogs will still want to go for an estate.

German firm has revamped its svelte four-door for 2022 with styling and tech that fall into line with the 4 Series Coupe’s. This most potent 4 Series Gran Coupe gets specific chassis tweaks, including bespoke settings for the stroke-dependent dampers and an active differential on the rear axle to boost agility. The engine is a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol with 48V mild-hybrid tech that adds an 11bhp boost for a total of 369bhp and 500Nm of torque.
