Product Overview

Sonus faber Lumina I is the smaller of two bookshelf loudspeakers in the company's new entry-level Lumina collection. Compared to the comparable model in Sonus faber's previous entry point, the Sonetto I, the Lumina I loses the unique Lute shape; still, it retains the leather details and is made in Italy.
The Lumina I features a 2-way bass-reflex design with a single 120mm paper cone mid-woofer and a 29mm DAD tweeter. It is built into a minimalist cabinet with real wood front baffles in three designs: Walnut and Wenge in matte with maple inlays and glossy Piano Black. The cabinet is wrapped in leather everywhere else.
Compared to the Lumina II unveiled months after the initial release of the Lumina I, this compact bookshelf speaker is weaker in the lower frequencies. While it may be employed in lifestyle / casual-listening settings, it is perhaps better suited as rear speakers in home theatre setups.
Other loudspeakers in the Lumina collection include two floorstanders, Lumina V and Lumina II, a larger bookshelf speaker, Lumina II, and a center-channel speaker, Lumina CI.

Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Sonus Faber Lumina 1 are on sale now, priced at £799 in the UK for a pair. The tidily finished front panel is available in a choice of real-wood veneers. Low frequencies inevitably lack a little extension, but the bass these boxes produce is full bodied, taut and enjoyably detailed.

Reviewer score 61% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
Lumina 1 are a two-way design with a small 12cm paper cone mid/bass unit coupled to a larger-than-average (29mm) silk dome tweeter. The chrome detailing around the drive units could be considered a little glitzy, but we are certainly fans of the real leather wrap around the sides and top of the MDF cabinet. We're less happy with the moulded plastic base, though.
Pros
  • Impressive low-end and high-end dynamics
  • Impressive build quality
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Expensive compared to rivals
