Product Overview

Voigtlander 35mm 1:2.0 APO-Lanthar aspherical E is a premium manual-focus prime lens for Sony's E-mount mirrorless cameras. Released alongside the VM-model, this lens joins its 50mm sister that has been loved by reviewers.
The 35mm APO-Lanthar, as its name suggests, is an apochromatic lens that excels at suppressing chromatic aberrations. It offers supreme optical quality with a tactile feel that only a well-constructed full-metal lens can deliver.
While the f/2 maximum aperture is moderate for a prime lens, the 35mm APO-Lanthar E is able to produce high-quality images wide open.
With electronic contacts, this lens not only transmits all EXIF data but allows the In-Body-Image-Stabilization (IBIS) inside Sony cameras.
As is the case with the 50mm model, the Voigtlander 35mm APO-Lanthar E shares the same 49mm filter thread and 62.6mm diameter.

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from phillipreeve have found:
A maximum aperture of f/2.0 is not that exciting anymore, as we have a very high resolving f/1.2 lens with autofocus and even an f/0.95 manual focus lens. A minimum focus distance of 35 cm is not best in class but it is still nice and lets you get close to your subject. As is ususally the case in close focus scenarios the bokeh is also generally smooth and non-distracting.
Pros
  • Very good sharpness at f/2.0
  • Very good correction of optical aberrations
  • Low vignetting
Cons
  • Bokeh is noticeable at mid distances
