Product Overview

Samsung AU8000 Crystal UHD is a 4K TV in Samsung's 2021 smart TV lineup. It sports a sleek design similar to its QLED brothers, though the AU8000 loses all the cutting-edge features.
Powered by the same Crystal Processor 4K from last year, the AU8000 adds HDR10+ support, as do the entire 2021 Samsung lineup. However, it is relatively meager in audio and image processing support.
Nevertheless, the AU8000 still retains broad support of digital assistants, including not only Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa but also Samsung's proprietary.
Compared to last year's model (TU8000), the AU8000 primarily differs on two fronts: a dramatically slimmer build, and the addition of HDR10+.

rtings[1]

Reviewer score 27% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Samsung AU8000 has a VA-type panel with high native contrast and excellent black uniformity. It doesn't have any gaming features and has a slow response time, but it still has low input lag. Sadly, it can't display a wide color gamut for HDR content and doesn't get bright enough to bring out highlights. It's good for watching TV shows and decent for sports because of its great reflection handling.
Pros
  • High native contrast ratio
  • Great reflection handling
  • Low input lag for a responsive desktop experience
Cons
  • Narrow viewing angles
  • Slow response time
  • No local dimming feature
  • Doesn't get very bright

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The 50AU8000 is Samsung's latest entry-level 4K TV. Smart features are provided by the Tizen-based Eden system. Bright scenes look impressively punchy and vibrant for such an affordable TV. It also excels with its upscaling of sub-4K content, producing much more ‘4K-like' results.
Pros
  • Punchy, punchy pictures
  • Excellent upscaling of sub-4K content
Cons
  • Poor black level response
  • Poor speaker system
