Product Overview

X95J is Sony's 2021 flagship full-array LED 4K TV. Compared to the X92 and X90, it features a more premium one slate design covered by a single pane of anti-reflective glass. It also comes with an elegant 3-way metal stand as well as support of hands-free voice search.
Part of Sony's new BRAVIA XR-series, the X95J is powered by Sony's new Cognitive Processor XR that is able to analyze an array of features simultaneously to produce unprecedented audio and video processing. This elevates contrast, color reproduction, and dynamic range. The Cognitive Processor XR also improves 4K upscaling and image smoothing more effectively as before.
Like its predecessor the XH95 / X950H, the X95J features full-array LED for precise local dimming. The X95J also continues to carry X-balanced speakers found in Sony's wireless speakers: they offer high-quality sound reproduction in a thin chassis.
Sony refreshed its smart TV lineup at CES 2021, during which it introduced the new BRAVIA XR-series that also include the 8K Z9J, 4K OLED A90J and A80J, and full-array LED X92J and X90J.

    External Reviews

    pcmag[1]

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Sony X95J is a very good TV that offers strong contrast, fairly good color, and plenty of features. The TV doesn't quite hit the ranges it should, though, with reds and greens slightly oversaturated in SDR and all colors falling short of DCI-P3 in HDR. The comparably priced LG C1 OLED ($1,799.99) offers far better colors and darker blacks.
    Pros
    • Strong contrast
    • Good color performance
    • Good black levels
    Cons
    • No VRR or AMD FreeSync support
    • Lags in gaming

    rtings[2]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sony X95J is a great TV for watching movies in both SDR and HDR. It's bright enough to overcome glare, and it has surprisingly fair viewing angles. Gamers will appreciate its low input lag, great response time, and HDMI 2.1 support. It upscales lower resolution content well and has a huge selection of apps.
    Pros
    • Excellent reflection handling
    • Great response time
    • Outstanding low input lag
    • Good contrast ratio
    • Amazing local dimming feature
    • Exceptional peak brightness
    Cons
    • Some uniformity issues in dark scenes
    • Not the best choice for a wide seating area
    • No variable refresh rate
    • Fair viewing angles

    whathifi[3]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The X95J’s increased dimming zone count seems to result in more aggressively defined ‘blocks’ of blooming. The X90J by comparison takes a more diffuse approach to its lighting because it can’t deliver such localised light control. The 50W of sound the XR-65X95J delivers across five channels is put to mostly good use. Clarity and detailing is excellent, with a startlingly open, sensitive and responsive midrange.
    Pros
    • Impressive sound quality
    • Impressive picture quality
    • Excellent build quality
    Cons
    • Backlight blooming is more pronounced
    • Limited viewing angles
