Product Overview

Sony A80J is a premium 4K OLED TV in Sony's 2021 lineup. It joins the flagship A90J as part of the new BRAVIA XR series powered by Sony's new Cognitive Processor XR.
Thanks to this new processing engine, the A80J is able to analyze an array of features simultaneously to produce unprecedented audio and video processing. This elevates contrast, color reproduction, and dynamic range. The Cognitive Processor XR also improves 4K upscaling and image smoothing more effectively than before.
Like other premium Sony OLED TVs from the past, the A80J features Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology that uses the display panel as part of the speaker system, which is complemented with a single subwoofer. Compared to the A90J, however, the speaker output is decreased.
Naturally, the A80J comes with Google Assistant, Apple AirPlay, HomeKit, and Chromecast built-in.
For gamers, the A80J couples the 120Hz panel with an ultra-low 8.5ms input lag as well as VRR.
Alongside the A80J, Sony also introduced a range of IPS full-array LED 4K TVs such as the X90J and X95J at CES 2021.

    rtings[1]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sony A80J is an excellent TV for mixed usage. It performs well in dark rooms, whether gaming or watching movies, thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio. It also has a nearly instantaneous response time, so motion looks clear in fast-moving content like sports or video games. It upscales lower resolution content well, and it has wide viewing angles.
    Pros
    • Near-infinite contrast ratio
    • Wide viewing angles
    • Image stays accurate from the sides
    • Above-average brightness
    • Nearly instantaneous response time
    Cons
    • Low frame rate content can appear to stutter
    • No VRR support

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
Google TV greatly simplifies the process of setting up the A80J. The remote control is long and narrow, with soft-touch buttons for the number pad. Sony's new streaming service, Bravia Core, is an extraneous, if better-than-it-has-to-be, addition.
    Pros
    • Sleek, attractive design
    • Google Assistant is a real time saver
    • Google Play and Amazon Prime support
    Cons
    • No HDMI 2.1 ports
    • No Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support

    whathifi[3]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from whathifi have found:
Sony A80J is the new benchmark for OLED TVs at its price. Clear, detailed and dynamic, with a superior sound system to its rivals. Not as bassy or spacious as its much more expensive sibling. Hardcore gamers will still be better served by the LG C1, but if your priorities are movies and shows, the A80 is the best.
    Pros
    • Punchy, punchy picture
    • Impressive motion handling
    Cons
    • No 4K HDR
    • No Dolby Vision or HDR10+
