Product Overview

Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G is a mid-range, ultra-compact prime lens for Sony's E-mount mirrorless cameras. Despite having a moderate f/2.5 maximum aperture, the SEL50F25G is designed to be shot at f/2.5, while retaining sharpness in most of its aperture range.
Unlike previous ultra-compact lenses released by Sony, the new 50mm is constructed of a full metal body with full sealing against dust and moisture.
Like other recent Sony G series of prime lenses, the 50mm F2.5 G features a customizable focus hold button, an aperture ring that can be de-clicked, and an AF/MF switch.
The FE 50mm F2.5 G is introduced with two other prime lenses that share its design, dimensions, and feature set: the FE 24mm F2.8 G and the FE 40mm F2.5 G.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Sony FE 50mm f2.5 G is a compact standard prime lens that aims for portability but also delivers on quality, even mounted on modern high-res bodies with the aperture wide-open. Details are sharp across the frame whether shooting closeups, portraits or landscape views, and the quality out-of-the-gate proves it’s very practical to shoot at the maximum aperture. Focusing is quick, precise and quiet, and it's impressive to find a focus hold button, declickable aperture and weather-sealing all crammed into such a small barrel.
Pros
  • Wide-open aperture
  • Good image quality
  • Compact and compact
Cons
  • Focus breathing could be better
