Product Overview

Sony A90J is a flagship 4K OLED TV in Sony's 2021 BRAVIA XR-series. Alongside the 8K full-array LED Z9J, the A90J is part of Sony's 2021 MASTER Series.
The BRAVIA XR-series is powered by Sony's new Cognitive Processor XR that is able to analyze an array of features simultaneously to produce unprecedented audio and video processing. This elevates contrast, color reproduction, and dynamic range. The Cognitive Processor XR also improves 4K upscaling and image smoothing more effectively as before.
Like its predecessor the A9S, the A90J features Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology that uses the display panel as part of the speaker system, which is complemented with dual subwoofers.
Unsurprisingly, the A90J comes with Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay / HomeKit. It also has Chromecast built-in.
Another OLED TV that Sony unveiled at CES 2021 is the A80J, while Z9J, X90J, and X95J are the other three TVs in the new BRAVIA XR-series; they feature IPS panel with full-array LED backlighting.

    Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Sony Master Series A90J is a fantastic example of a flagship OLED TV. It offers an excellent picture with plenty of brightness for an OLED panel and one of the widest color gamuts we've seen in any TV. Sony's XR Sound system combines conventional drivers with actuators mounted behind the screen. It sounds good enough that you can think twice about adding a soundbar.
    Pros
    • Excellent picture with wide color gamuts
    • Hands-free Google Assistant voice control
    • Excellent audio performance
    Cons
    • Lacks a soundbar or subwoofer

    Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sony A90J is an amazing TV for mixed usage. It delivers exceptional picture quality for movies and TV shows. While it doesn't get as bright as an LED TV, it's bright enough to bring out most highlights in HDR. Unfortunately, there's a risk for permanent burn-in, though it shouldn't be an issue if you watch varied content.
    Pros
    • Near-infinite contrast ratio
    • Image stays accurate at the edges when sitting up close
    • Wide viewing angles
    • Excellent reflection handling
    • Incredibly bright
    Cons
    • No VRR and ALLM support
    • Doesn't get as bright as an LED TV

Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)
    Reviewers from t3 have found:
The 65A90J's sound is strong in most ways. Voices are crystal clear at all times, even though there's a sense of scale to the sound stage that spreads beyond the screen's boundaries. Left and right separation is surprisingly strong considering the screen is being used for most of the sound. Moving to the new Google TV smart TV software makes the A90J easier to use than Sony's previous Android TVs.
    Pros
    • Superb picture quality
    • Super-brightness panel
    • Superb smart TV software
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision or G-Sync support
    • Bass drivers feel a little detached

    Reviewers from techhive have found:
The A90J's image is absolutely excellent with the vast majority of material. It's also Infrared, though, so you must leave the receptor at the bottom middle of the TV unblocked. When it comes to audio, Sony plays second fiddle to no one.
    Pros
    • Excellent image quality
    • Excellent HDR performance
    • Fantastic motion handling
    Cons
    • No user EQ controls
    • No Dolby Vision support

    Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Sony A90J is staggeringly detailed in any and all circumstances. The color palette from which it draws is wide, nuanced and unquestionably natural. The black tones it creates are deep and lustrous in the classic OLED manner, but they're also simply loaded with detail. Acoustic Surface Audio+ is one of the very best sound systems incorporated into a television.
    Pros
    • Superb picture quality
    • Superb upscaling
    • Excellent motion handling
    Cons
    • No iPlayer, All4, ITV Hub or iPlayer
    • No IMAX Enhanced

    Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The A90J features the latest implementation of Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ arrangement. Reinforced by two rear-firing low-end drivers, this system uses actuators to turn the entire surface of the screen into a speaker. Sony has been good enough to include its Bravia Core service with the XR-55A90J.
    Pros
    • Impressive picture quality
    • Impressive sound quality
    • Excellent build quality
    Cons
    • No Dolby Vision or HDR10+

    Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The Sony A90J is an absolute stunner. It takes OLED picture performance to new, thrilling levels while maintaining the authenticity for which Sony is justifiably renowned. It sounds significantly better than all of the other TVs you should be considering. The user experience is better than that of any pre-2021 Sony TV.
    Pros
    • Superb picture quality
    • Impressive motion handling
    • Superb upscaling
    Cons
    • Sound can become fuzzy when pushed to very high volumes
