Reviewers from cnet have found:
At 55 inches it's huge -- for a computer monitor, at least -- with the broad gamut, vivid colors, spectacular blacks and superfast pixel response OLED is known for. It's important to understand that nothing compares to OLED for gaming. As a monitor, the Alienware does offer some advantages over a TV like the LG.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 120Hz refresh rate
  • Excellent gaming performance
Cons
  • No HDMI 2.1 support

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The Alienware 55 is the first OLED gaming monitor. It has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which means you can push your gaming PC's performance over 100 FPS without screen-tearing or stuttering. With color gamut up to 95 percent DCI-P3, you'll take in colors that just aren't possible on most current LCD monitors. The screen is surrounded by tiny bezels and the frame is miniscule.
Pros
  • Beautiful OLED screen
  • 120Hz adaptive refresh rate
Cons
  • No G-Sync support

laptopmag[3]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
Alienware's AW5520QF is an ambitious monitor that makes sense for a small slice of gamers. The colors on the 55-inch monitor aren't just saturated — they're also true-to-life. Gamers will also appreciate the speaker's ability to separate sounds.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K display
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent speakers
Cons
  • Lag time

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 54% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Alienware 55 OLED is a monitor/TV hybrid that should be equally comfortable in your living room as in your home office or basement gaming bunker. Brightness levels are surprisingly poor, coming in on my tests at a peak level of just 285 nits. OLEDs aren't known for being the fastest display types out there, and in the case of the 55 OLED, matters were no different.
Pros
  • Superb image quality
  • High-refresh color accuracy
  • Bright enough for gaming
Cons
  • Low brightness
  • No multi-kilobuck support

t3[5]

Reviewers from t3 have found:
Alienware 55 OLED AW5520QF is a top-of-the-range gaming monitor. OLED technology is astonishingly good at reproducing crisp, vibrant and sharp images. Response time of 0.5 ms and maximum refresh rate of 120Hz means that ghosting and tearing were simply non-existent on test. This monitor supports AMD Radeon™ FreeSync™, too.
Pros
  • Fantastic 120Hz refresh rate
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Excellent colour gamut
Cons
  • Expensive for a gaming monitor

techradar[6]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Alienware AW5520QF has a 120Hz refresh rate and 4K resolution. AMD FreeSync technology keeps games running smoothly and without screen tearing. It doesn't support Nvidia's rival G-Sync technology, which is more widely-used by gaming laptops and PCs. There are concerns about burn-in, where images left on the OLED panel can remain, albeit faintly, for a while afterwards, and in some cases, permanently.
Pros
  • Gorgeous design
  • Great 4K resolution
  • Great gaming performance
Cons
  • No G-Sync support
  • No HDMI 2.1

tomsguide[7]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The Alienware AW5520QF 55-inch OLED gaming monitor is one of the best gaming monitors available today. It offers the best aspects of PC gaming monitors in a TV-sized package. But unlimited budgets just aren't realistic for most people, and $4,000 is an awful lot to ask.
Pros
  • Gorgeous design
  • Great gaming performance
  • Great audio
Cons
  • No HDMI 2.1

tomshardware[8]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
The AW5520QF has incredible contrast. Motion processing is an entirely different thing in the OLED world. The screen uses a grid polarizer to prevent light spread between pixels. There is no support for Dolby Vision (asus' ProArt PA32X and PUC are the only PC monitors with it)
Pros
  • Incredible contrast
  • Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Vision
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • No HDR
  • No HDR support

trustedreviews[9]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Alienware 55 OLED Gaming Monitor is mighty heavy at 25.5kg. The 120Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time are ideal for competitive gamers. AMD FreeSync, meanwhile, locks the monitors refresh rate to the game’s frames-per-second performance. OLED panel technology allows for deeper blacks, gifting the display a far superior contrast than what you’d find on the LCD panels usually housed in monitors.
Pros
  • Super-smooth gaming performance
  • High refresh rate
  • Low input lag
Cons
  • No HDR support
  • Lacks HDR support
