Product Overview

Samyang AF 75mm F1.8 is a full-frame, autofocus prime lens for Sony's E-mount mirrorless system. It offers an interesting 75mm focal length and bright f/1.8 maximum aperture in a compact, affordable package.
The AF 75mm F1.8 weighs a mere 230g and measures just 69mm long, making it easy to carry around all day. The 75mm focal length on a full-frame sensor is a great option for portrait photography, while the compact size makes it an interesting option for street photography, too.
Thanks to the new Stepping Motor (STM) focus motor, the AF 75mm F1.8 offers quiet and accurate autofocus.
In recent years, Samyang has greatly expanded its autofocus lens lineup for Sony's E-mount. Three other such lenses that share the same lightweight and compact design include the AF 18mm F2.8, AF 35mm F1.8, and AF 45mm F1.8.

Reviewer score 63% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Rokinon 75mm F1.8 is one of the more affordable lenses of its type. Autofocus is quick and quiet, and all of the expected Sony features are supported. Focus is available as close as 27.2 inches (69cm), so you will need to put some distance between your camera and subject.
Pros
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Quick, quiet autofocus
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Not the sharpest lens we've tested
  • No fluorine protection

phillipreeve[2]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from phillipreeve have found:
The Samyang AF 75/1.8 FE is very sharp in the center from wide open but then sharpness quickly drops off as you move towards the corners. By f/2.8 you can get most of the frame to be very sharp but the corners take f/8 to reach very good territory. Vignetting is average for a 85mm lens at 1.9 stops wide open which is reduced to 1 stop at f/4.
Pros
  • Sharpness in the center from wide open
  • Sharpness at f/2.8
  • Good bokeh
  • Low flare resistance
Cons
  • Only native 75mm prime
  • Some reports of AF reliability issues

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Samyang 75mm F1.8 AF (440 euros) is an excellent lens for Sony A7 system. It is an unusual focal length but very practical on day to day. The lens is designed to get a maximum of performances in the smallest form factor possible Everything is not perfect but the lens scores very well on all the main points.
Pros
  • Very fast aperture F1.8
  • Very good color rendition, beautiful blurry background, good bokeh balls wide open & at F2.8, efficient AF, small/light/cheap on a full frame mirrorless
Cons
  • Not top notch wide open (only very good)
