Product Overview

Samyang AF 18mm F2.8 is a full-frame, super-wide-angle, autofocus prime lens for Sony's E-mount mirrorless system. It is offers an interest, 100˚ field of view and relatively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture in a compact, affordable package.
The AF 18mm F2.8 weighs a mere 145g and measures just over 60mm long, making it easy to carry around all day. The 18mm focal length on a full-frame sensor is a great option for landscape, architecture, and real estate photography.
Out of the 9 elements in the AF 18mm F2.8, 8 of them are specialized elements, optimizing sharpness and suppression of aberration.
In recent years, Samyang has greatly expanded its autofocus lens lineup for Sony's E-mount. Three other such lenses that share the same lightweight and compact design include the AF 35mm F1.8, AF 45mm F1.8, and AF 75mm F1.8.

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found the following***:
ness in the centre wide open and max very good on A7RIV Background Blur is ok but could be smoother (The Batis does better on that matter) Noticeable distorsion (similar to Zeiss Batis 18mm F2.8) and moderate vignetting. Corners sharpness is bad open and only become good at F8 Bokeh Balls shows onion rings but on a ultra wide angle you don't have big bokeh balls so you won't notice it a lot.

Pros
  • Excellent piqué sur tout le champ sur capteur à 24Mpix
  • Excellent lens with better sharpness and bigger aperture but fully manual (1500 euros) : very good to excellent but huge (1000 euros)
  • Very good if you get a well centered lens (410 euros) good colo...
Cons
  • Bokeh is ok but could be smoother (The Batis does better on that matter)

Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
Rokinon has been putting together a strong array of low-cost lenses for Sony's full-frame system. Sony's first-party lenses tend to land on the spendy side of the spectrum. The FE 20mm F1.8 G is absolutely the best prime lens you can get with a similar angle of view, but at $900, you may hesitate to snap it up.

Pros
  • Light and compact
  • Excellent resolution
  • In-body stabilization
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Vignette
  • No in-camera correction
