Product Overview

Tokina atx-m 85mm F1.8 FE is a short telephoto prime lens designed for Sony E-mount cameras. It is optimized for portrait photography, thanks not only to its focal length and fast aperture but also to its fast autofocus and smooth bokeh.
Targeting a more price-sensitive segment, the atx-m 85mm F1.8 FE nonetheless comes with all-metal construction. It is fully compliant with Sony's lens communication specifications; as a result, all features such as IBIS and real-time Eye AF tracking are supported.

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
Tokina is starting a new series of lenses “atx-m” it seems this series is done in collaboration with the Chinese manufacturer Viltrox as the 85mm tested here is mostly identical to the. The build quality of this lens is very good all in metal, but a little bit heavy (636g) The focusing ring is large and strongly dampened, manual focus is very easy.
Pros
  • hotos, taken with Sony A7RIV and without post processing are available in full size (61Mpix) in the following Flickr album : Tokina 85mm F1.8 atx-m (535 euros)
  • Very good sharpness, same color rendering, same bokeh
  • Very fast and silent
Cons
  • No Lightroom lens profile but the one of Zeiss Batis 85mm is used safely and correct vignetting and distorsion quite well
  • Very heavy (636g)
