Product Overview

ASUS ROG Strix XG438Q is a 43-inch 4K UHD gaming monitor with 120Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time, over 100% sRGB color coverage, and DisplayHDR 600 compatibility.
Essentially a lower-powered version of the ROG Swift PG43UQ, the ROG Strix XG438Q has lower refresh rate, response time, and peak brightness. It supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro rather than NVIDIA G-SYNC.
It comes with an ASUS Aura Sync ROG logo projector to produce RGB ambient lighting.
ASUS also markets an ultra-wide 32:10 ROG Strix XG43VQ in the 43-inch class.

The Asus ROG Strix XG438Q is a well-placed, well-priced step for this new category. It's large enough to act as both a really big gaming monitor and a modest TV. Display Stream Compression (DSC) was supposed to be the first monitor to support it.
Pros
  • Very large for a gaming monitor
  • High refresh rate
  • Very good color
Cons
  • No HDMI 2.0 support
  • Some chroma subsampling issues

trustedreviews[2]

Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Asus ROG Strix XG438Q is an eye-catching screen that offers plenty to recommend. Its sheer size works well in bedrooms and living rooms, which bodes well for console players – and it will suit some PC players too. Core image quality is decent, and the Asus serves up great speakers, good connectivity and solid build quality. The addition of 120Hz FreeSync 2 and a 4K resolution deliver smooth, crisp gaming now while adding a greater degree of future-proofing.
Pros
  • Great gaming performance
  • Great speakers
  • Great build quality
Cons
  • HDR performance isn’t great
  • Uniformity levels could be better
