Product Overview

ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 GX701 is a 17.3-inch ultra-portable gaming laptop with minimal compromise in performance. It is available with up to RTX 2080 SUPER graphics and Core i7-10875H CPU. The Zephyrus S17 has a unique keyboard layout with the touchpad delegated to the right side.
Similar to the larger ROG SCAR 17, the Zephyrus S17 GX701 supports a 300Hz / 3ms matte IPS display. However, the Zephyrus S17 is 25% thinner. It drops some additional RGB lighting, though the per-key RGB backlighting is retained. The ROG Zephyrus S17 can further be configured with up to 32GB DDR4-3200MHz memories and dual M.2 SSD. WiFi 6 is also newly available.
For those who wishes for more portability, ASUS also offers the ROG Zephyrus S15 that shares much of the same features with the S17, though it drops the Thunderbolt 3 port.
For a similar performance in a larger chassis, ASUS markets the ROG Strix SCAR 15 and SCAR 17. The ROG Strix G15 and G17 are tuned-down versions of the SCAR-series. The Zephyrus M15 is a tuned-down version of the Zephyrus S15. The flagship this year is the Zephyrus Duo 15 that comes with dual 4K displays.
ASUS also markets AMD-powered Zephyrus G14 and G15 for those that prefer the red team.

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
Asus has a very good gaming laptop in store here, but we can't decide whether the unusual opening in the case is a cool feature or more of a disadvantage. The Zephyrus is usually a bit quieter than the competition but not exactly cooler. On the other hand, there's also the questionable aspect of longevity, even though the lifted keyboard unit makes a very stable impression.
Pros
  • High-resolution display
  • Very good CPU performance
  • Good battery life
  • Good speakers
Cons
  • Slow WLAN
  • No Thunderbolt 3

Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Zephyrus S17 posted one of the highest scores we've ever seen from a gaming laptop. Its Core i9 chip propelled it into the lead, just ahead of the Core i7-based Aorus. All five systems' fast SSDs breezed through PCMark 8's storage subtest.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 165Hz WQHD display
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Excellent keyboard and touchpad
Cons
  • No keyboard backlighting

Reviewers from t3 have found:
Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX701 is the best gaming laptop in the world. Uses Nvidia's Ray Traced Global Illumination tech. This means in-game scenes and environments don't only look realistic in terms of fidelity and texture depth, but crucially in how they are lit, too. The fact you have this tech loaded into the portable GX 701 is just fantastic.
Pros
  • Incredible gaming performance
  • Fantastic build quality
  • Extremely affordable
Cons
  • No network port
  • No 4K display
