Product Overview

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G512 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop sitting at the entry-level of ROG's 2020 lineup. It is available with up to Intel i7-10750H CPU with NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER graphics.
Much like its bigger brother, the SCAR 15, the G15 G512 comes in a compact chassis. However, as a tuned-down version, the G15 has more limited RGB lighting and drops support for the 300Hz display. Nevertheless, the 240Hz / 3ms panel compares well in 2020 against models available from the competition. The ROG Strix G15 can be configured with up to 32GB DDR4-3200MHz memories and dual M.2 SSD running in RAID0. WiFi 6 is also newly available.
For those who demand a larger display, ASUS also offers the ROG Strix G17 that shares much of the same features with the G15.
For a more performance in basically the same chassis, ASUS markets the ROG Strix SCAR 15 and SCAR 17. The ROG Zephyrus S15 and S17 are ultra-portable options that do not sacrifice on performance. The Zephyrus M15 is a tuned-down version of the Zephyrus S15. The flagship this year is the Zephyrus Duo 15 that comes with dual 4K displays.
ASUS also markets AMD-powered Zephyrus G14 and G15 for those that prefer the red team.

gizmodo[1]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from gizmodo have found:
The ROG Strix Scar G15 uses liquid metal compound (usually made of mostly Gallium) instead of traditional thermal paste or a thermal pad in between the CPU and heatsink plate. It's better at conducting heat, and considering how hot the Core i9-10980HK seems to get, it's probably a good thing the ROG use liquid metal instead of paste. At 1080p ultra (or highest graphical settings), the Strixscar G15 spat out an average of 110 fps in Far Cry 5.
Pros
  • Great gaming performance
  • Great keyboard and touchpad
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • Loud fans
  • No webcam

laptopmag[2]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The Strix G15 runs the Far Cry New Dawn benchmark at 57 fps, finally putting it above the category average. It transcoded a 4K video to 1080p in 10 minutes and 28 seconds on the HandBrake benchmark. Asus' 512GB SSD copied 4.97GB of data in a lengthy 41.81 seconds, translating to 130 MBps.
Pros
  • Solid gaming performance
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Subpar speakers
  • Poor speakers

notebookcheck[3]

Reviewer score 52% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
There is a healthy selection of integrated ports including RJ-45, HDMI, and USB-C with DisplayPort support. Thunderbolt 3 is not supported and there is no SD card reader. The Intel AX200 comes standard for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. There is no integrated webcam which Asus says is due to the very narrow bezels around the display.
Pros
  • 144 Hz panel
  • Good input devices
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No integrated webcam
  • No Thunderbolt 3
  • No SD card reader

trustedreviews[4]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Asus ROG Strix G15 is a far more straitlaced laptop, with no headline-grabbing gimmick on show. A newly launched Electro Punk design looks just as striking as it sounds, with a dark black chassis complimented by a hot pink rim and logo on the lid. An RGB light strip also runs around the bottom edge of the main chassis, which is bound to be accused of being ‘overbearing' by those who prefer a minimalist approach.
Pros
  • Gorgeous design
  • Powerful AMD Ryzen 5000 GPU
Cons
  • Expensive for what it offers
