Product Overview
Whatfedale EVO4.2 is a large 3-way bookshelf loudspeaker in the EVO4-series, which was developed alongside the company's flagship Elysian project.
The EVO4 series sits above the Diamond 12 series unveiled in 2020. Notably, all EVO4 speakers feature an AMT treble unit instead of the conventional dome tweeter. It consists of a large, pleated lightweight diaphragm driven across its surface by rows of magnets, which makes it more efficient and accurate. The single woofer in the EVO4.2 is made of woven Kevlar, just like that of the Elysian 2. Compared to the smaller, 2-way EVO4.1, the EVO4.2 adds a 2" soft dome midrange driver.
Other loudspeakers in the EVO4 series include two floorstanders, EVO4.3 and EVO4.4, two center channel speakers, EVO4.C and EVO4.CS, and a surround speaker, EVO4.S.

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 165mm driver looks a little too small for the size of the cabinet. Overall result is rather fussy, although it is very well made. The dome midrange and AMT in particular form an impressively cohesive partnership with one another. Without ever sounding forensic or wearing, it manages to extract levels of information that are genuinely outstanding for a speaker under £1,000.
Pros
- Impressive midrange and AMT performance
- Impressive build quality
Cons
- Not the fastest-sounding speaker at £600
