androidauthority[1]
Reviewer score 54% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sony Xperia 5 II is a very serviceable phone and it's cheaper than the Xperia 1 II while offering many of its best features. Sony's camera apps are caught between overly complex and underbaked, with nothing in the middle for the typical consumer. The Android side is sleek and essentially stock, but there's a catalog of individual apps you might need.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Solid performance
- Good battery life
Cons
- Software is a little bloated
- No wireless charging
digitaltrends[2]
Reviewer score 59% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sony Xperia 5 II is available to pre-order in the U.S. ahead of a December 3 release for $949 (it has already been discounted to $900) The 4,000mAh battery has proven very strong, easily lasting me a full day with average use of between two and four hours of screen time each day. It's unfortunate the phone still has Android 10 rather than Android 11, and there's no confirmed date for the software update.
Pros
- Excellent build quality
- Excellent camera performance
- Good battery life
Cons
- No 5G support
- No wireless charging
notebookcheck[3]
Reviewer score 59% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Xperia 5 II has a 6.1-inch OLED panel in the 21:9 format with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screen content can be easily read even in bright ambient light, and the display only shows moderate glare and reflections. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and 8 GB of RAM ensure a smooth system operation.
Pros
- Good battery life
- Fast Wi-Fi
- Good camera performance
Cons
- Display could be brighter
- No fingerprint scanner
pcmag[4]
Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Xperia 5 II is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 8GB RAM. Its 4,000mAh battery lasted 9 hours and 18 minutes in our battery drain test. It supports fast charging via USB Power Delivery 3.0. Wireless charging isn't available, which is a strange omission for a flagship phone, especially at this price.
Pros
- Excellent build quality
- Excellent cameras
- Good battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No 5G
phonearena[5]
Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Xperia 5 II comes equipped with Android 10 out of the box and there's very little bloatware onboard. The PS App is preinstalled, as well as AccuWeather, Tidal, and Call of Duty. Side Sense is still present for better or worse. There are practically no alternatives to the 21:9 aspect ratio that Sony uses in its smartphones.
Pros
- Gorgeous 21:9 display
- Excellent performance
- Good battery life
Cons
- Underwhelming charging
- Underwhelming performance
techadvisor[6]
Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sony Xperia 5 II will set you back £799/US$949. It's a £100 increase on what last year's Xperia 5 cost at launch. There's only one configuration on offer, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone comes with a 4000mAh battery, identical to the Xperia 1 II. No wireless charging, a major omission at this price point.
Pros
- Gorgeous 120Hz display
- Superb camera performance
- Great battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No headphone jack
techradar[7]
Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)There's a single 8MP front-facing camera, which produces nice-looking selfie shots. The Xperia 5 II is available in two storage variants – 128GB or 256GB. The phone comes with 5G built-in, so if you have a supporting network and data plan you'll be able to make the most of next-gen internet connectivity.
Pros
- Fast-charging
- Good battery life
Cons
- No notch
- No wireless charging
trustedreviews[8]
Reviewer score 67% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Xpera 5 II offers solid battery life, but it comes with a few compromises compared to most phones this price. The biggest is the lack of any form of wireless charging. It doesn’t come with a decent fast charger out of the box, despite supporting it, though this is annoyingly a common compromise in today’s world, even in the top end of the market.
Pros
- 120Hz display
- Good battery life
- Decent cameras
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No 4K video recording
whathifi[9]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Xperia 1 II has a 21:9 aspect ratio screen and a 120Hz refresh rate. It has the same 12MP f/1.7 wide lens and 12MP telephoto lens. The fingerprint sensor is on the right-hand side of the phone. It's reliable and fast, though easier to accidentally wake in your pocket. Using the headphone jack or via the wireless connection, we are treated to a musical, clear and dynamic sound. Sony's LDAC technology aims to maximise performance over Bluetooth.
Pros
- Excellent performance
- Great battery life
Cons
- No 120Hz screen
- No wireless charging
