Reviewers from androidauthority have found the following***:
The Sony Xperia 1 II runs Android 10, and it does something that I wish more OEMs would do: use Google apps as defaults. Sony doesn't try to make many proprietary apps for things Google can already offer, and that makes for a much nicer experience. Sony does have some cool apps that work well with this device, like the PlayStation app which lets you attach a DualShock controller natively. There's no doubt that $1,200 is a lot to pay for a smartphone.

Pros
  • Gorgeous 21:9 OLED display
  • Excellent camera system
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No headphone jack
  • No wireless charging

Reviewers from androidauthority have found the following***:
The Xperia 1 II's camera can take some excellent pictures but the experience remains too inconsistent for all but the most patient photographer. It's the fingerprint verification process that's a little slow, as unlocking secure apps feels equally sluggish. Sony packs in some truly powerful features, particularly in the Photo Pro and Cinema Pro apps. However, the user experience remains a mishmash of separate applications.

Pros
  • Sizzling design
  • Excellent camera performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Lackluster performance
  • No 5G
  • No microSD card slot

digitaltrends[3]

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
Sony has put stereo front-facing speakers on the Xperia 1 II, and they're excellent, with a full, deep, and engaging sound. Audio is enhanced with a feature called Dynamic Vibration, which uses haptic motors to add a vibration to media played on the phone. The 4,000mAh battery lasts for about five to five-and-a-half hours of screen time each day.

Pros
  • Excellent screen
  • Excellent audio performance
  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent camera
Cons
  • No 5G in the U.S

Reviewers from nextpit have found the following***:
The Sony Xperia 1 II is the equivalent of the Alpha 9 full format camera. It can keep up with an Alpha 9 in a certain way when it comes to continuous shooting mode: including autofocus and exposure. The 4K OLED display is sharp, high-contrast and there is the possibility to adjust the settings to suit your own needs.

Pros
  • Sharp, high-contrast 4K OLED display
  • Good battery life
  • Fast charging
Cons
  • No wireless charging

notebookcheck[5]

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
The 6.5-inch OLED display has a native resolution of 3840x1644 and a 21:9 aspect ratio. The Xperia smartphone takes the bottom spot in our comparison chart when it comes to the screen brightness. In day-to-day use, the scrolling is very smooth and webpages load very quickly. The smartphone gets quite warm under load, but it never feels hot.

Pros
  • Good battery life
  • Fast Wi-Fi
  • Good cameras
Cons
  • Mediocre camera performance
  • No NFC

techadvisor[6]

Reviewers from techadvisor have found the following***:
The Sony Xperia 1 II is available to buy SIM-free, direct Sony's Xperia official partner store, as well as the likes of Currys, Carphone Warehouse and Amazon, in the UK. With an RRP of £1099, it sits just above the iPhone 11 Pro and is notably more expensive than similarly-specced Android rivals, such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The saving grace is that it is dropping in price, albeit slowly, so keep your eyes peeled.

Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent performance
  • Decent battery life
Cons
  • No 21W charging
  • No wireless charging

The Sony Xperia 1 II is powered by the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. It has a 6.5-inch 4K display and 256GB of storage. The phone is the first from Sony to offer 5G connectivity in the US. It's not particularly easy to use, and you need a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Sony's Photo Pro app even goes so far as to imitate the actual user interface of Sony's Alpha cameras. Where other Android phones try increasingly arcane tricks to fix their photos, the Xperia 1 II simply puts the control in the hands of the photographer. The high $1,200 price combined with the strange lack of 5G in the US makes it a confusing device at best.

Pros
  • Stunning photos and videos
  • Very good battery life
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • No 5G in the US
  • No HDMI-in

Sony’s software has often felt hamstrung in the past. There are two distinct Sony apps: Cinema Pro and Photo Pro. Both give you more control over video and photos. Shooting with this phone feels more like taking snaps and capturing video with an actual camera than any other phone on the best camera phones list.

  • Great battery life
Cons
  • No headphone jack
  • No 120Hz refresh rate
