Product Overview

Sony FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 is the world's smallest and lightest standard zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. With 3 aspherical lens elements, it is able to suppress aberrations throughout the zoom range despite its compact form factor.
To achieve this feat, the FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 incorporates a retracting mechanism similar to that of the NIKKOR Z 24-50 f/4-6.3. Still, the lens is dust and moisture resistant. Together with the linear AF motor that achieves high AF performance, these characteristics make it a great companion for on-the-go shooting.

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
This lens is all about being small and light. You will barely know it is in the bag, on the gimbal, in hand, etc. Despite the small size of this lens, my knuckles still uncomfortably impact the barrel when using the Sony a7R III and IV. Out of the 471 lenses in our database, there are precisely 0 others that have 40.5mm filter threads.
Pros
  • Small, light weight
  • Sharp image quality
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras
  • 1-year limited warranty
Cons
  • No lens hood in the box

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Sony is rethinking just how compact a full-frame zoom lens can be with the FE 28-60mm F4-5.6. It's only available as a bundled option with the slim a7C at launch, but you'll be able to buy it on its own eventually. If you don't mind a bigger zoom, the Tamron 2875mm F2.8 is an Editors' Choice winner.
Pros
  • Compact, compact build
  • Excellent image quality
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • No fluorine coating
  • No stabilization

sonyalpha[3]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The new Sony 28-60 kit lens is much smaller and lighter than the old 28-70 kit lens by losing 10mm and a little bit of aperture at the low end It also lose optical stabilisation Build quality is roughly equivalent but the zoom ring is not smooth at all, it is impossible to get a smooth zoom. It will be the ideal companion for the A7c with its light weight form without any sacrifice vs old lens.
Pros
  • Good “standard” photos, well sharp in the centre and contrasty
  • Good performance in general with very good sharpness with is very good for a kit lens
  • Dust and moisture resistance
Cons
  • Zoom ring is not very smooth and it is quite difficult to get a smooth zooming (the was much smoother)
