Product Overview
Voigtlander NOKTON 21mm F1.4 Aspherical is a large-aperture, wide-angle manual-focus lens optimized for Sony mirrorless or Leica rangefinder cameras. With an angle of view just over 90 degrees and an ultra-bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, the NOKTON 21mm F1.4 is great for landscape and architecture photography.
The NOKTON 21mm F1.4's 12-bladed aperture produces well-defined 12-pointed sunstars. The aperture ring on the lens has detentes in 1/3 stops. A click-stop switching mechanism makes it possible to declick the aperture ring for video work.
The NOKTON 21mm F1.4 Aspherical uses a floating mechanism to maintain excellent image quality throughout the focusing range. Its aspherical elements minimize distortion and chromatic aberrations.
The M-mount version is specially designed for manual focusing coupled precisely with the camera's rangefinder system.

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Voigtlander Nokton is one of only two in-production 21mm F1.4 lenses. It can lock onto subjects at 9.8 inches (0.25m) Close focus isn't a strong point for most rangefinder lenses. A lens this wide and this bright with full-frame support is a rara avis.
Pros
- Excellent resolution and field curvature at f/1.4 and f/2 (4,625 lines)
- Compact, lightweight design
- Full-frame support
Cons
- Relatively high price
- Occasional distortion

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Voigtlander 21mm F1.4 sets the standard in sharpness for a wideangle lens, controls CA well and while the bokeh has some shortcomings I would rate it as an overall positive as well. Good flare resistance and well defined sunstars also add to it's appeal as a landscape lens. The only real negative I could find is the very strong vignetting. Handling is best in class and the lens feels very solid.
Pros
- Good sharpness and coma-correction
- Good flare resistance
Cons
- Vignetting at f/1.4
- Bokeh at medium distances

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)Vignetting is very present at F1.4 and is reduced around F2.8 but is still there at all apertures. Moderate barrel distorsion that can require a small correction for architectural subjects CA are present wide open when facing the sun but quite small Resistance to flare is good but you can obtain some small purple halo when you face the sun and you look for flare. Coma correction at f 1.4 is average but well controlled at F 2.8 The color rendition is very good and pleasant The contrast is excellent The background blur is soft and pleasant for a wide angle, it become a little bit more nervous in the borders.
Pros
- Very good sharpness in the centre as of F1.4 and close focusing distance, creative possibilities are very good with a beautiful bokeh and background blur that the Zeiss Loxia 21mm F2.8 can't match with their slower aperture
- Very good background blur

Cons
- Vignetting is present wide open when facing the sun but quite small
- Moderate barrel distorsion that can require a small correction for architectural subjects
- Comes with left corners a little bit less sharp than the right corner
