Product Overview

SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art lens is a professional large-aperture zoom lens specifically designed for mirrorless cameras of the Sony E-mount and Leica L-mount systems.
Thanks to optical designs that leverage the unique advantage of mirrorless cameras, the lens size and weight are successfully reduced, while uniformity and high resolution from the center to the periphery throughout the zoom range become a reality.
Autofocus with a stepping motor and the latest algorithm successfully establishes a good balance between acceleration and quietness of the AF drive, making it good for both stills and videos. The SIGMA 24–70mm F2.8 DG DN is also compatible with the Eye-Detection AF used more frequently in mirrorless cameras.
This lens is dust- and splash-proof, while the front element features a water- and oil-repellent coating. Further, a variety of functions, such as an AFL button that can assign various functions to the lens barrel, a zoom lock switch that is unlocked by zoom operation, and a nice touch AF / MF switch, make the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art highly versatile.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art is a general-purpose zoom for Sony e-mount and Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras. At 70mm focal length the lens focuses in around 0.7 sec from infinity to 0.76m (1:10 magnification), which is as fast as the Tamron 28-75mm f 2.8 Di III. The zoom ring turns through 65 degrees the other way around than Sony users are used to and has a 19mm wide rubber surface with a good grip.
Pros
  • Sharpness at close focusing distances
  • Compact design
  • Sharpness and repeatability
Cons
  • No focus breathing
  • Lack of zoom creep

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Sigma's 24-70mm F2.8 is its first pro-grade zoom for full-frame mirrorless systems. It delivers excellent results on average, peaking at 4,400 lines at f/8 and f/11. You'll have to keep the curved plane of focus in mind when focusing close.
Pros
  • Excellent resolution at f/2.8 and f/5.6
  • Compact construction
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Vignette effect is visible at smaller f-stops
  • Not a native Sony lens

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art (1200 euros) is an excellent standard zoom for the A7RIV. Globally it is the best in its category and the only one to resolve fully the 61Mpix sensor (only in the centre) Its main weakness is the 24mm focal length where the Sony 24/70 GM does consistently better. The color rendition is very good on par with the Sony GM and better than Tamron.
Pros
  • Top notch as good as the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art
  • Fast and precise and silent, I had no issue at all with Tracking on A7RIV or with eye AF
Cons
  • Not yet a Lightroom lens profile but this should come in a future release of Lightroom to correct Distorsion and Vignetting automatically
  • Only one to resolve fully the 61Mpix sensor (only in the centre)
