cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The RF 100-500 costs $2699 or 2899 pounds, making it $400 or 600 pounds more expensive than the earlier EF 100-400. There’s optical stabilisation, good for five stops or enhanced to six with the IBIS on the R5 and R6, and the Dual Nano USM focusing motors were swift and silent. The closest focusing distance is 90cm at 100mm or 1.2m at 500mm. It also works with the new RF teleconverters albeit only when set between 300 and 500mm which is inconvenient for transportation.
Pros
  • Excellent autofocus
  • Long f4.5 aperture
  • Wide zoom ring
Cons
  • No IS wobble
  • Only f5.6 at the long-end

digitalpicture[2]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
The RF 100-500 comes with the white color matching ET-83F (WIII) lens hood. The push-button release makes installation and removal smooth and easy. A door is provided on the side of this lens hood for filter rotation access. This lens is rather expensive, and the price will represent a hurdle for non-serious photographers.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality at all aperture and focal length settings
  • Excellent build quality
  • Compatible with all Canon EOS R-series cameras
Cons
  • No lens case included

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is a serious lens for enthusiasts and pros. Its resolution is excellent (4,500 lines) at 100mm, with crisp results from center to edge. It's not a bright F2.8 or F4 prime, but you can still get plenty of background blur.
Pros
  • Excellent image stabilization
  • High-quality build
  • Compact, compact design
Cons
  • Small f-stop
  • Lacks focus hold buttons

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L is a match made in action-photography heaven. Paired with the EOS R5, we found practically nothing to complain about. Images are remarkably sharp (even with the aperture fully open), with beautiful, true-to-life color rendition. Center sharpness is absolutely perfect throughout, with no evidence of pincushion distortion.
Pros
  • Fantastic image quality
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Excellent build quality
Cons
  • Slow autofocus
  • No IBIS
