External Reviews

autoexpress[1]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Sonata also debuts Hyundai's latest suite of smart technologies. The car looks good with its new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. It takes themes from the Le Fil Rouge four-door coupe concept shown at 2018's Geneva Motor Show. The 1.6T and 2.5 GDI Smartstream engines will also be available.
Pros
  • Sensuous Sportiness looks great
  • Excellent tech
Cons
  • Poor ride quality
  • Uncomfortable to drive

cnet[2]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale in the US in late 2019. Hyundai will introduce a new family of "Smartstream" engines with the 2020 Sonata. The top-end Sonata Limited will get Hyundai's first application of its Remote Smart Parking Assistant. The Sonata exhibits solid handling and a comfortable ride.
Pros
  • Sleek styling
  • High-quality interior
  • Easy-to-use infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of power in the US

digitaltrends[3]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
Hybrid powertrain is a good fit for the Sonata's laid-back character, but don't expect impressive numbers. Sport provides the right amount of extra urgency, and Eco isn't the penalty box it is in most other cars. The Sonata Hybrid had a better showing on highways, where its floppy suspension yielded one of the smoothest rides of any midsize sedan.
Pros
  • Powerful hybrid powertrain
  • Comfortable ride
  • Powerful electric motor
Cons
  • No solar roof
  • No real-world fuel efficiency

Reviewers from pcmag have found:
We tested the Limited trim priced at $35,300 and outfitted with leather seats, a leatherette-wrapped dashboard, and heated and ventilated front seats. Tech includes dual USB front ports and one rear USB port, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a wireless smartphone charger, and a digital key. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth streaming, and HD radio come standard.
Pros
  • Class-leading fuel economy
  • Sensuous interior design
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of tech and safety features

tomsguide[5]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The Sonata Hybrid's solar roof is probably this model's most talked-about feature. You can only get the solar roof on the Limited trim, and it impedes the option of a panoramic roof. All Sonatas come with an extensive suite of safety and assisted driving features.
Pros
  • Powerful electric motor
  • Powerful solar roof
  • Excellent range
Cons
  • No panoramic roof
