Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Mk2 (chassis code X247) is a compact crossover in production from 2019. It is available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.3 to 2.0 liters.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB X247 is limited to inline-4, which just a decade ago would be considered inadequate but which is what most have to live with today, thanks to regulations.

The Mercedes GLB is a surprisingly capable cross-country companion. Frustrating steering aside, it can pick apart roller-coaster stretches of Tarmac. It's not engaging or entertaining in a traditional sense, but there’s enough pace and poise here to frighten the occasional well-driven hot hatch. The car's USP is that it combines this speed and agility with a decent dose of family-friendly practicality.

Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 Sport is the entry-level, front-wheel drive GLB200 petrol. Engine is a 161bhp 1.3-litre turbocharged four pot developed jointly with Nissan and Renault. The Mercedes GLB slots in between the GLA and GLC in the German company's burgeoning range of SUVs. It's similar in size to the GLC, but unlike its more expensive sibling, the GLB can be equipped with seven seats. This means it's likely to appeal to family buyers in search of a little extra versatility. There's a hint of the G-Class about the styling, while the boxy looks serve to create a practical and spacious interior.

Mercedes has stretched the SUV's platform to the extreme to make it as spacious and accommodating as possible. Rear passenger space is by far the best of any rival at this price point and more generous than in a GLC. The steering is a weak point; it's awfully light and vague, which isn't a great pairing with the GLB's rather lazy body control.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC goes on sale at the end of this year. It is AMG's answer to the Audi SQ2 and Cupra Ateca. The 2.0-litre turbo is identical to other 35-badged editions in the AMG stable, and as ever it serves up impressive if not sublime performance.

The GLB's overall profile is much boxier than anything else we've seen spun off the architecture that underpins it. Inside there are dashboard flourishes that are designed to mimic the G-Class's grab-handles. The UK range of GLBs makes use of the extensive line-up of engines available to Mercedes on the MFA platform. It all starts with the GLB 200, which uses a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is Mercedes' compact seven-seat SUV. Despite offering seating for seven, the GLB isn't actually that big. In some ways it's more like a raised up estate with two seats in the boot. However, the AMG's more compact footprint and relatively low roof height and weight for a seven seater (1,770kg) means that it actually handles quite well. With launch control it'll sprint from 0-62mph in just 5.3 seconds.

The GLB boasts a neat, stylish cabin with added ruggedness over the A-Class. The larger touchscreen displays really do add to the sense of occasion. The adaptive suspension on every GLB we drove did a decent job of isolating the cabin from the excesses of anything up to 20-inch wheels. We'll reserve judgement on the GLB's actual ride quality until it hits UK roads with the correct setup.

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 has the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq vRS completely outclassed in the style stakes. You get plenty of plush materials, some gorgeous metal-effect air vents, super-supportive sports seats and Mercedes' signature dual-screen infotainment system. The two in the front come with plenty of adjustment as standard and those in the middle are roomy enough for six-footers to stretch out. But the rearmost seats are difficult to climb into and only large enough for kids to sit comfortably.
