Audi e-tron is an electric crossover SUV. It is the first fully-electric car by Audi, using two electric motors to drive all four wheels. The Audi e-tron sits above Q5 and under Q8 in Audi's premium crossover lineup.
In September 2020, Audi introduced e-tron S and S Sportback with more powerful 370 kW tri-motor powertrains (two on the rear axle and one on the front, with rear-axle torque vectoring).

Despite heady levels of weight transfer under braking, body movement is excellently suppressed thanks to a combination of firm damping and fast-acting qualities of the standard air suspension.

Together, they develop 429bhp and 596lb ft of torque. Overboost function triggered on kickdown in Sport mode adds a further 67bhp. The official 0-62mph time (4.5sec) really doesn't do it justice.

This allows torque vectoring and fully variable torque distribution between the rear wheels for a promised increase in agility. In real-world conditions, the handling gains feel marginal but are apparent. You won’t be trading in your Porsche 911 but you will be impressed by the grip levels.

The low centre of gravity helps erase body roll while the electric quattro system multitasks to direct torque to the wheel with the most traction and power the car through a bend. It has a configurable digital instrument panel and a pair of sharp, responsive, central touchscreens for the infotainment and secondary functions such as the climate control. You have to add the £1950 Tour Pack to get extra driver aids such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition.

Despite this, the huge output and strong traction from its all-wheel-drive system means it'll go from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. Despite its 21-inch alloy wheels, and carrying a whopping 700kg battery, the ride is surprisingly good on air suspension. The sporty roofline doesn't have an impact on the car's practicality, and there's a powered tailgate that reveals a 660-litre boot.

Power is only available for eight seconds but under normal running conditions that's more than enough. There's lots of grip from the Quattro all-wheel drive (now provided by a motor on each axle rather than a load of diffs and clutch packs)

It took all day and in excess of 200 miles to get used to looking further down than usual, at screens mounted in the doors just above the door handle. Audi has sized it close to the Q7 in length but the Q5 in height. The wide boot stows 605 litres (and there's underfloor storage which isn't always possible in electric cars)

However, there's plenty of space for five adults, and the more sloping rear tailgate hasn't had too much of an adverse effect on luggage capacity. It has 615 litres available, or enough for seven carry-on cases, although the Audi's capacity is bested by the 656 litres offered by the Jaguar I-Pace.

Headroom is a bit tight for those over 5 feet, 9 inches and the windows don't roll down very far. The cabin certainly feels more intimate and racier, but that's mostly when looking in the rearview mirror.
