Product Overview

The NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S is the widest prime lens in Nikon's full-frame lens lineup of the Z-mount mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system. Taking advantage of the reduced flange distance and wide throat diameter of the new Z-mount, the Z 20mm f/1.8 S combines compact, lightweight packaging with superior optical quality compared to its DSLR predecessors.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Nikon Z 20mm f1.8 S is a unique proposition for owners of Nikon's full-frame mirrorless cameras. It is the widest large aperture lens with autofocus designed specifically for the short flange distance of the Nikon Z system. It focuses in around 0.3 sec from infinity to 0.29m (1:10 magnification), which is very fast. Focus accuracy and repeatability is critical to consistently produce sharp shots especially with large aperture lenses.
Pros
  • Flexible focal length
  • Very good optical performance
  • Very fast autofocus
Cons
  • Lack of focus breathing
  • Fingerprint sensor

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Nikkor Z 20mm F1.8 S is, at press time, the widest prime for the system. It uses dual motors that are quick and quiet to drive its focus. Close focus is available to 7.9 inches, measured from the camera sensor. The response is hypersensitive, making it hard to dial in discrete adjustments.
Pros
  • F1.8 optical design
  • Wide aperture
  • Control ring doubles as a control ring
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Focusing response is hypersensitive
  • No manual autofocus
