Product Overview

Nikon Coolpix A1000 is an affordable 1/2.3" compact camera with a large zoom range. Introduced by Nikon in 2019, it comes with a 1/2.3" sensor with 16 MP (4608 x 3456) resolution and a 1.17 million-dot EVF.
The camera has a poor battery life, and a second or third battery may be needed to get you through the day. One should note that the Nikon Coolpix A1000 has a 125 base ISO, which is not conducive to getting the cleanest images.
Those who intend to use the Nikon Coolpix A1000 for video work will be glad to find that the camera comes with 3 stops of IBIS. Nikon has endowed this compact camera with a 35x zoom lens, which can be quite useful for travels. Last but not least, the camera can focus quite close to the subject.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The COOLPIX A1000 is a great camera for street photography. The flip up (and down) screen makes it easy to shoot from high and low angles. The viewfinder really helps you get the framing right when zoomed right in. It’s not as detailed as the 2.3 million dot viewfinder on the Lumix TZ95 / ZS80. The camera has two slow motion movie modes, HS1080 2x which shoots at 50fps and plays back at 25fps for half speed.
Pros
  • Flip up and down screen
  • Easy to use
  • Competitive price
Cons
  • Not as detailed as the Lumix TZ95 / ZS80

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The Nikon A1000 is a camera that you buy for the lens, not the small 1/2.3 inch sensor. Images are on par with other compacts with similar sensors, with the added perk of that 30x zoom range. For video, the A1000 can capture up to 4K at 30 fps (3,840 x 2,160)
Pros
  • 30x zoom lens
  • Good image quality
  • Compact body
Cons
  • Small sensor
  • No viewfinder
  • Slow autofocus

pcmag[3]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
At 150mm the maximum f-stop drops to f/5.6, but the lens is still quite good. The A1000's images keep noise less than 1.5 percent all the way through the top ISO 6400 setting. Raw images show more grain and sharper detail, but there are limits.
Pros
  • Slim, slim design
  • Good image quality
  • Fast autofocus
  • 4K video
Cons
  • No EVF
  • No tilting screen

rtings[4]

Reviewer score 23% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Nikon COOLPIX A1000 is okay for travel photography. It's small and lightweight, so you can carry it around in a coat pocket without too much difficulty. Its built-in lens' wide zoom range gives you the flexibility to shoot fairly wide-angle shots or snap a clear picture of far-away subjects.
Pros
  • Feels decently well-built
  • Very long maximum focal length
  • Image stabilization feature is remarkably effective
  • Flexible zoom range
  • Good noise handling capability
Cons
  • Poor autofocus performance in 4k and FHD
  • No headphone or microphone jacks
  • Limited selection of inputs and outputs

techradar[5]

Reviewer score 58% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Nikon A1000 can do well once it's achieved rough focus, such as when focusing repeatedly in the same spot. It's capable of focusing in less-than-perfect conditions reasonably promptly, although it doesn't manage to do so consistently. Finer detail in subjects further away, particularly more complex ones, isn't well resolved, an issue that's compounded by a somewhat aggressive noise reduction system. The camera's Vibration Reduction system clearly does well to keep things more stable, which makes it easier to compose images with precision.
Pros
  • Fantastic image quality
  • Compact design
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Occasional LCD issues
  • Noise reduction isn’t great

tomsguide[6]

Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The Nikon A1000 is a competent, compact, zoom camera, but it's not your best option. The A1000 falls further behind in low-light photography, as seen in this series of an improv troupe playing at a local theater. The iPhone XS blows both away, with richer color and far less overexposure.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent subject-tracking autofocus
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No zoom lens
  • No subject tracking
